"IN GOOD CONSTITUTION?": LAUNCH OF THE NEW PODCAST ON THE FUTURE OF THE CONSTITUTION
The 10-part podcast by the Stiftung Forum Recht and detektor.fm starts on May 8, 2024. The podcast asks what threatens the Basic Law and what the future of the rule of law looks like.
Karlsruhe/Leipzig. Politicians are being physically attacked during the election campaign, plans to expatriate Germans with a history of migration are circulating, hundreds of thousands of people are taking to the streets across Germany in support of democracy and the rule of law. The mood in the country is heated.
Just in time for the 75th anniversary of the constitution in May 2024, the new podcast from the Stiftung Forum Recht and the Podcast radio detektor.fmwhat threatens our constitution from within and without. "In good shape? The Basic Law for tomorrow" analyzes the threats to the constitution: from the consequences of climate change to infiltration by right-wing extremists. What is the state of the Basic Law and its course in German society? And how fit is our constitution for the next 75 years?
Can a constitutional state abolish itself?
The first episode is entitled "The right and the rule of law - how threatened is our constitution?" and appears on May 08, 2024 on all popular podcast platforms. The focus is on the question of whether a constitutional state can democratically abolish itself. Podcast host Rabea Schloz ("Expensive housing", "Is that fair?") discusses with Experts from the judiciary, science and societyhow legislators and civil society can effectively protect the Basic Law. What role does the Federal Constitutional Court and how can it be ensured that it cannot be incapacitated for political reasons?
The interviewees include the journalist and activist Arne Semsrott and constitutional lawyer Nora Markard as a guest on the podcast. They also outline Juliana Talg and Klaas Müller as research associates of the Verfassungsblog, using the example of Thuringia, which dangers can emanate from extreme parties at the level of the state constitutions.
Focus on the future of the Basic Law
In Episode 2 - available from May 22, 2024 - will focus on an international comparison: How have extreme parties in Poland, Hungary and Israel tried to undermine the principles of the rule of law, how have they failed and what lessons can we in Germany learn from this?
Each episode focuses on a current or future The challenge for the Basic Law: What does the conflict over the limits of natural resources mean for the constitution? To what extent do different perspectives in East and West Germany shape the population's relationship to the Basic Law 35 years after the Peaceful Revolution? And what instruments can protect the constitution?
New season of the successful podcast
The podcast "In good shape?", produced in cooperation with the Stiftung Forum Recht and detektor.fm. The Basic Law for Tomorrow" is the second season of the detektor.fm podcast "In good shape. The Basic Law Podcast". Rabea Schloz and Hajo Schumacher took a close look at the 146 articles of the Basic Law in 100 episodes. To mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, detektor.fm editor Rabea Schloz returns with the new season.
It is not only the focus on the future of the constitution that is new in 2024: the Stiftung Forum Recht is also on board as the initiator of the second season and a partner in all areas, meaning that the planning, editing and implementation of the podcast project were created jointly. Another new feature is that podcast host Rabea Schloz will record the conversations with her guests in front of a Live audience in Leipzig. "In good shape?" is therefore not just an interview podcast, but rather combines the results of the interviews, including questions from the audience, thematically in ten episodes and thus offers a completely new experience for listeners.
Concentrated podcast power
The project brings together two partners, the Stiftung Forum Recht and the podcast radio station detektor.fm, who are bringing their Expertise for podcasts and Communicating the rule of law bundle: Founded in 2019 by the German Bundestag, the Stiftung Forum Recht offers events and educational programs on the topics of law and the rule of law at its locations in Karlsruhe and Leipzig as well as digitally. With "Justice, Baby! The podcast on law and justice", the foundation already produced a successful 13-part podcast in 2023.
The podcast radio station detektor.fm was most recently awarded the German Radio Prize and the Grimme Online Award in 2023 and has a large number of podcasts on political and social topics in its portfolio.

The ten episodes of "In good shape? The Basic Law for Tomorrow" will be released from Wednesday, May 08, 2024The podcasts are available every two weeks on all podcast platforms and on the website of the Stiftung Forum Recht and can be listened to free of charge.
