The Forum Recht Foundation is growing. New buildings in Karlsruhe and Leipzig will allow us to expand our already diverse and participatory formats for engaging with current issues. We are excited about the prospect of pursing these activities in Karlsruhe and Leipzig as well as via mobile formats and digital offerings. Why do we distinguish the designation “rule of law” from the Rechtsstaat (constitutional state)? Why focus on the Rechtsstaat and not the “rule of law”? Though often used interchangeably, the German conception of Rechtsstaat (constitutional state) differs from the Anglo-American “rule of law” in that the latter emphasizes the idea that everyone is subject to the law, whereas the idea of the former says that the fundamental organization of the political state is framed by the law and accepted legal principles.
