Europaplatz (Administering Justice) – Artistic Intervention)
Karlsruhe/Leipzig. For the first time, two foundations in Karlsruhe are collaborating on an innovative research project that combines art and law, focusing on European case law: The Stiftung Forum Recht and the CCFA Foundation, Karlsruhe commissioned the Swiss artist Yves Mettler together with the lawyer Antoine Bailleux, to examine European narratives. Through a total of nine podcasts in two languages, listeners can gain insight into rulings by the European Court of Justice that explore interesting legal questions and, through their legal and factual content, also embody a certain vision of Europe.
At the nine stations throughout Karlsruhe, passersby can listen to and learn about different visions of Europe through podcasts from May 8 to 30, 2023. The project „Europaplatz (Recht sprechen),“ commissioned specifically by the CCFA Karlsruhe Foundation and the Forum Recht Foundation for Europe Day 2023 in Karlsruhe, illustrates that the narratives and images of Europe shaped by court rulings are diverse. They complement and contradict one another, demonstrating that Europe is not a fixed construct but rather a living entity that can be shaped. The podcasts at the nine stations outline the different faces of Europe. One of these can also be found at each of the partner institutions, the Forum Recht Foundation and CCFA Karlsruhe. The podcasts are available in German and French.
A diverse program featuring walks to the individual stops as well as discussion groups offers the opportunity to delve deeper into the artistic and legal interpretations of Europe and our perceptions of it.
