Book presentation and discussion "Zwischen NS-Vergangenheit und Kaltem Krieg. Consequences of the study on the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office"
Leipzig. The Forum Recht Foundation and the Faculty of Law at the University of Leipzig invite you to Monday, June 27, 7:00 p.m. in cooperation with the Federal Administrative Court and the Federal Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice, invites you to a book presentation followed by a discussion in Leipzig. In her non-fiction book „,” published by dtv in 2021,„National Security During the Cold War: The Federal Prosecutor's Office Between Its Nazi Past, the *Spiegel* Affair, and the RAF“In “ (ISBN 978-3-423-28264-2), Friedrich Kießling and Christoph Safferling provide insight into the history of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office between 1950 and 1974. The book sheds light on the highly topical question of how a democracy can protect the state without betraying its own values. The two authors will present the results of their research in Leipzig.
The event will be moderated by journalist and lawyer Annelie Kaufmann. Together with other experts, the authors will discuss, among other things, the impact of Nazi ideology on the work of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, how the concept of national security has evolved over time, and what implications the study has for the present—for example, for legal education.

About the Authors:
Friedrich Kießling is a professor of modern and contemporary history at the University of Bonn. He has conducted research and taught in London, Vienna, and Dresden, among other places. A major focus of his work is National Socialism in the Federal Republic of Germany. Christoph Safferling is a professor of criminal law, criminal procedure, international criminal law, and international law at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He co-authored the study on the Nazi past of the Federal Ministry of Justice: „The Rosenburg File.“.
