Why every vote is important!

Elections in accordance with the electoral principles enshrined in the German Basic Law are a fundamental principle of the rule of law that is important to us all.

2024 is an important year in Germany Election year! On May 26, Thuringia started with the Local elections. On June 09, 2024, German citizens aged 16 and over will be able to take part in the European election and have a say in the distribution of seats in the European Parliament. Local elections are also held in eight federal states, with district councils, city councils and local councils being elected, for example. In the European elections you can only cast one cross, in the local elections you can cast up to three votes.

Five reasons for voter turnout:

I.
Every vote counts: If you don't have a say, you leave it to others to decide who represents us in parliament!

II.
Not voting out of protest? That doesn't work! Your vote simply won't be counted and it won't have any effect. An invalid vote, on the other hand, is included in the voter turnout.

III.
Your cross can protect us from extremism! Because low voter turnout strengthens the influence of extremist movements on politics and our society.

IV.
Elections in Germany are based on five fundamental principles. They are "universal, direct, free, equal and secret" (Art. 38 para. 1 GG). This is an important basis for the functioning of our democracy.

V.
"All state authority shall emanate from the people." (Art. 20 para. 2 GG): Voting is therefore your right but also a privilege, as it is by no means a matter of course in many other countries.

Elections allow us to influence and actively shape our future.
