in the Karlsruhe urban area for Europe Day, starting May 8
What does Europe mean? To explore this question, the Swiss Artist Yves Mettler An unusual—but all the more exciting—approach: Together with the Lawyer Antoine Bailleux he is doing this as part of the artistic-legal research project „Europa-Platz (Administering Justice)” Various ideas and conceptions of Europe, illustrated by specific rulings of the European Court of Justice On this topic. At nine stations in the Karlsruhe's Urban Space Passersby can May 8–30, 2023 use podcasts to listen to and learn about different perspectives on Europe.
The work, which was created specifically for the Europe Day 2023 The fact that it originated in Karlsruhe illustrates that the narratives and images of Europe shaped by court rulings are diverse: They complement and contradict one another, demonstrating that Europe is not a fixed construct, but rather a living entity that can be shaped. The podcasts for the nine stops outline the different faces of Europe. One of these is also available at the Partner Institutions: Forum Recht und Foundation Franco-German Cultural Center Karlsruhe, which initiated and supports the project. The podcasts are available in German and French to hear.
A diverse program featuring walks to the individual stops as well as discussion groups offers the opportunity to delve deeper into the artistic and legal interpretations of images of Europe.

Another event recommendation during European Week
Also as part of Europe Week, the „Fishbowl Discussion on Europe Day” will take place, with Foundation Director Henrike Claussen participating. The event, organized by the City of Karlsruhe, SWR, and the EUROPE DIRECT Center in Karlsruhe, will focus on the topic of „Ukraine on the Path to the EU“.

The panel discussion features Director Henrike Claussen, Karlsruhe Mayor Dr. Frank Mentrup, Renke Deckarm, Executive Director of the EU Commission in Munich, and Natalya Koch from the association „Ukrainians in Karlsruhe: German-Ukrainian Association e.V.”.
