The Forum Recht Foundation invites you to a discussion on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., titled „Law at the Borders: A Legal Perspective on Migration,“ featuring Prof. Dr. Daniel Thym. How can a legal perspective help in this heated debate?

Leipzig. No issue has dominated the recent Bundestag election campaign quite like migration. From the idea of an open-door immigration society to serious concerns about communities’ capacity for integration, to positions that call fundamental rights into question: the public debate remains heated. Can a legal perspective counter this growing polarization?   

On April 9, the lawyer and expert in immigration law Prof. Dr. Daniel Thym from the University of Konstanz, a guest speaker in the lecture series „“Let's Talk About Law" the Forum Recht Foundation. In his latest book, *Managing Migration: A Guide for the Here and Now* (C.H. Beck, 2025), Thym seeks legal and policy-based answers to current challenges. In the discussion „Law at the Borders: A Legal Perspective on Migration,“ he discusses Marie-Elisabeth Miersch, a research associate at the foundation, with him fundamental questions of the Immigration Law: How are asylum and migration already regulated in Germany and the European Union? What leeway do policymakers have to implement stricter regulations? And what rights do refugees and migrants have?

The foundation invites the Audience to participate in the conversation by asking questions and engaging in direct dialogue with the guest.

The discussion will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Stiftung Forum Recht in downtown Leipzig (Universitätsstraße 20). Admission is free.

The guests are Prominent Figures from Various Fields of Law, who talk about their day-to-day work and share their perspectives on a current legal issue.
