Leipzig, October 1, 2024. On Wednesday, October 9, at 5:00 p.m., the Forum Recht Foundation in Leipzig invites you to a sneak preview and artist talk as part of the Leipzig Light Festival 2024. Visitors can look forward to a glimpse into the light installation „Fortuna. Futura. Libertas.“, which will be on display that same evening on the facade of the G2 Kunsthalle at Innenstadtring/Dittrichring 13.
Ask a question during the artists' discussion Liudmila Siewerski, Katia Sophia Ditzler, Charlotte Bach and Marisol Jiménez They presented their light art project. To develop the installation, they had interviewed people in Leipzig about their dreams and visions of democracy, justice, and freedom. They wove these statements together with complementary illustrations to create a multi-layered collage of sound and images. „Democracy means being able to dream. Having the chance to realize one’s potential. Not being at the mercy of arbitrariness. The rule of law provides the framework within which one can pursue these dreams safely. That’s why our project is about the future, happiness, and freedom—and their fragility,“ explain Liudmila Siewerski and Katia Sophia Ditzler.
The Art Projection „Fortuna. Futura. Libertas.“ is a collaboration between the Forum Recht Foundation and the Leipzig Festival of Lights, and one of 21 artistic installations that will be on display in public spaces in Leipzig on October 9. „We are delighted to welcome the four female artists behind one of the Festival of Lights“ art projects to our foundation this year,„ said Dr. Cord Brügmann, director of the Forum Recht Foundation. “This insight into their work promises to spark stimulating discussions about current and future visions of democracy, law, and freedom.”
The lawyer, who is the president of the Saxony Bar Association and vice president of the German Federal Bar Association, will also participate in the discussion with the artists. Sabine Fuhrmann with a thought-provoking contribution.
After the reception and discussion, guests are invited to experience the light installation on-site at the G2 Kunsthalle. Afterward, everyone will gather at Augustusplatz to light the traditional „Kerzen-89“ together to bring the evening to a close. Visitors will also be able to view the other light installations along the city center ring road until midnight.
The 2024 Leipzig Festival of Lights commemorates the historic events of October 9, 1989, when more than 70,000 people demonstrated in Leipzig for freedom and democracy, paving the way for the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification.
