LEIPZIG READS  GUEST AT THE STIFTUNG FORUM RECHT

The Forum Law Foundation is part of the 2024 Reading Festival "Leipzig liest" (Leipzig Reads) Host and co-organizer of three literary events on the subject of the rule of law and democracy.   

Leipzig. This year, for the first time, three of the approximately 3,000 events of the Reading Festival will take place during the Leipzig Book Fair. "Leipzig liest" (Leipzig Reads) will take place at the Forum Recht Foundation. Both book launches on March 21 and 22, 2024 and the award ceremony of the writing competition "The freedom I mean - freedom of conscience" are closely linked to the Foundation's topics with their focus on democracy and the rule of law.

"The freedom I mean..."

The award ceremony of the nationwide writing competition "Die Freiheit, die ich meine..." on Thursday, 21 March 2024 at 16:00 in the rooms of the Stiftung Forum Recht in Leipzig's city center honors the most outstanding submissions on this year's topic "Freedom of Conscience". With over 800 entries from all over Germany, the 2024 competition will once again offer a broad platform for discussion on fundamental rights: Applicants aged 16 to 26 and over were invited by the Initiative October 3 - Germany sings and sounds and its chairman, Dr. Bernd Oettinghaus to submit texts of all literary genres on the annual theme of "Freedom of Conscience". The jury of literary experts and media representatives, including Dr Stephan N. Barthelmess, acting director of the Stiftung Forum Recht, honors the most impressive texts at the award ceremony. Afterwards, the authors will read from their prize-winning works. The choir of the Leipzig Singing School will provide the musical backdrop to the award ceremony.

Social cohesion

The Research Institute for Social Cohesion (FGZ) will then present its new publication series, which has been published by Campus Verlag since January 2024, on Thursday evening, March 21, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the rooms of the Stiftung Forum Recht. Under the title "Conditions, threats and variants of social cohesion", the editors and authors of the series raise the question of how social cohesion can be researched. Maria Alexopoulou, Holger Backhaus-Maul, Angelina Göb, Matthias Middell and Axel Salheiserwas discuss what strengthens cohesion locally and what can be learned about this in historical and global comparison. They will also look at current political debates.

Democracy in a cartoon

On Friday, 22 March 2024 at 19:00, Lappan Verlag (Carlsen), which specializes in cartoons, will be a guest at the Stiftung Forum Recht and present the new publication "Wir haben die Wahl!". In the publication, the crème de la crème of the international cartoon scene addresses the question of the state of democracy and the rule of law. The cartoons are thought-provoking and show a unique view of the world of today and tomorrow. In conversation, the publisher Christian Langer, communication scientist and journalist, and the cartoonists Dorthe Landschulz and Katharina Greve about the process of creating the volume and their commitment to the rule of law and democracy.

After all events, there will be an opportunity to have books purchased on site signed by the authors and cartoonists. Admission to all events is free of charge, registration is not required.
