Law Alive! Action days in Herne: The rule of law at your fingertips
From November 10 to 14, the Stiftung Forum Recht, the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia and the City of Herne (Department of Integration/KI) are inviting people to various locations in Herne for action days on the topics of law and the rule of law. At exhibitions, workshops, lectures, discussions and table talks, citizens can find out about current topics and talk to experts.
Herne. How close is the TV crime thriller "Tatort" to reality? What role does the law play in our lives? And is the Basic Law fit for the future? The rule of law is exciting, multifaceted - and "Quite lively!". Whether in everyday life, in the past or in the future - we encounter the law (almost) always and everywhere. It is often the small moments that make us feel its importance. Whether in a discussion about fundamental rights or when questioning everyday rules - law shapes the way we live together in many different ways.
The Stiftung Forum Recht, the Ministry of Justice NRW and the City of Herne are inviting you from November 10 to 14, 2024 in Herne for days of action on the rule of law. In addition to several School projects there will be a varied program for interested parties at various locations in the city, including the H2Ö district center, the Herne-Wanne and Herne district courts and the Strünkede secondary school.
It starts with a Movie night in the Hülsmann Kulturkneipe with an ARD "Tatort" and subsequent reality check with experts from the public prosecutor's office and criminal investigation department. Also invite Exhibitions, workshops, discussions and an interactive quiz on the rule of law to join in. There will be an opportunity to talk to representatives of the justice system and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere.
In addition to the numerous public events during the action days, projects and workshops on topics relating to the rule of law will also take place with various schools from Herne: School project days organized by the Stasi Records Archive on the topic of GDR state security, workshops on disinformation with Correctiv journalist Miriam Bunjes (Reporter4you), a legal studies workshop at Herne District Court and other workshops with the GrundGesetzVerstehen e.V. association. At the Mont-Cenis Academy, seminar participants can visit the traveling exhibition "Alles Wissen Wollen. The Stasi and its documents" will be on display for seminar participants. In addition, parents' groups and migrant self-organizations can take part in the workshop "Judgement and truth-finding in times of disinformation".
A cooperation between the Stiftung Forum Recht and the Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphaliatransitional City of Herne (Department of Integration, Municipal Integration Center) and the Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive.

photo exhibition SPRAWIEDLIWOŚĆ - JUSTICE
Amtsgericht Herne-Wanne, Hauptstraße 129, 44651 Herne
From October 29 to November 13, 2024, the photo exhibition SPRAWIEDLIWOŚĆ - JUSTICE can be seen at the Herne-Wanne District Court. The right-wing conservative government of the PiS ("Prawo i Sprawiedliwość" / "Law and Justice") party fundamentally restructured the Polish justice system between 2015 and 2023 and changed the working conditions for public prosecutors and judges with judicial reforms. From 2018, for example, they had to expect forced transfers and suspensions by a newly created disciplinary chamber. PiS thus de facto abolished the independence of the judiciary in Poland.
Various judges, public prosecutors and lawyers opposed these interventions. Piotr Wójcik, a long-standing photojournalist for the Polish daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza and university lecturer, took this commitment as the starting point for the photography project Sprawiedliwość. The images and interviews with Polish lawyers were taken between 2020 and 2021. The Forum Law Foundation has also created a virtual exhibition.
