"“Quite Urban!": The Forum Recht Foundation Launches a City Tour on Law and the Rule of Law in Leipzig

Starting in May, the Forum Recht Foundation will offer a free monthly city walking tour in Leipzig focusing on the law and the rule of law. Lasting about two hours, the „Recht stadtlich!“ tour takes participants to courthouses and other sites of legal historical significance, recounts fascinating legal cases, and highlights how closely the law is intertwined with everyday life.

Leipzig. So what’s the deal with freedom of assembly? What does the Federal Administrative Court do? What’s the story behind the „Woyzeck“ case? And how does the law relate to our everyday lives? These and many other questions are answered by the Free themed city walking tour: „Truly Urban!“. On Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., the Forum Recht Foundation invites you to join its first “Walk in the Footsteps of the Law” in Leipzig. Following this kickoff event, the tour will take place from June through October on the third Thursday of every month.

The city walking tour, which is about three kilometers long, begins at the square in front of the Federal Administrative Court, passes by the Regional Court, the New City Hall, and the Stasi Records Archive on its way to the Market Square, and from there continues through the Mädler Passage to St. Nicholas Church and Augustusplatz. The tour ends at the offices of the Forum Recht Foundation at Universitätsstraße 20, at the corner of Schillerstraße.

The „Recht stadtlich!“ program is aimed at anyone who Discover a new side of Leipzig and want to learn more about the law in everyday life—both residents of Leipzig and visitors who are in the city for the first time. During the roughly two-hour tour through the city center, participants will discover courthouses and other sites in Leipzig that featuring exciting legal cases are interconnected. At each stop along the tour, current and historical events illustrate just how much the law often shapes our daily lives—often without us even noticing—and where we encounter it in the city.

The tour is in German, lasts about two hours, and is free of charge. No registration is required.
