Der Thementag am 05. Juni 2025 gibt Interessierten die Möglichkeit, hinter die Mauern einer Justizvollzugsanstalt zu blicken
From time to time, there are discussions in the media, in political circles, and among experts about how offenders should be treated or whether Penalties are hard enough. However, very few people have ever experienced a Correctional Facility (JVA) seen from the inside—in many of these guided debates, there is often a lack of understanding of what it actually means to be incarcerated in Germany. Public discussion often focuses on „locking people away,“ while the issues Reintegration and the The Purpose of Punishment have faded into the background.
That is why am Donnerstag, 05. Juni 2025, The next theme day on the topic of the correctional system will be held at the JVA Halle (Saale). The Professional Development richtet sich an Multiplikator:innen aus dem Bildungsbereich, aus dem sozialen Bereich sowie an Journalist:innen und fachlich interessierte Personen. Inhaltlich wird sich den komplexen Themenfeldern von Justizvollzug, Strafe und Strafrechtspflege angenähert. Neben einem Besuch der Justizvollzugsanstalt Halle und einem Vortrag von Dr. Lorenz Bode, der sich unter anderem mit dem Thema „Internetzugang für Strafgefangene zwischen Resozialisierung und Sicherheit“ befasst hat, steht auch ein Besuch der Gedenkstätte „Roter Ochse“ auf dem Programm.
Through practical insights and discussions with representatives from academia, this theme day aims to provide a more nuanced picture of the tasks, challenges, and issues facing the correctional system.

Getting There: Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel. The foundation cannot provide a travel allowance.

Target audience: Die Fortbildung richtet sich an Multiplikator:innen aus dem Bildungsbereich (Schule, politische Bildungsarbeit, VHS, sonstige Bildungseinrichtungen), aus dem sozialen Bereich (z.B. ehrenamtliche Jugendleiter:innen; Sozialarbeiter:innen) sowie an Journalist:innen und fachlich interessierte Personen (z.B. Schöff:innen).
Registration: Eine Anmeldung war bis 21. Mai 2025 möglich. The number of participants is limited to 23.* Die Fortbildung ist kostenfrei.
Note: No cell phones, laptops with SIM cards, or other internet-enabled devices (including access points) may be brought into the correctional facility.
DAILY SCHEDULE*
- 08:45 Treffpunkt vor der JVA Halle, Vorstellungsrunde und Sicherheitskontrolle
- 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Tour of the correctional facility and meeting with representatives of the facility’s administration
- 12:00-13:20 Gemeinsames Mittagessen (auf eigene Kosten)
- 13:20-13:30 Ortswechsel in die Gedenkstätte „Roter Ochse“
- 13:35-14:50 Justizvollzug heute: Vortrag von Dr. Lorenz Bode zum Thema „Strafvollzug zwischen Resozialisierung & Sicherheit: aktuelle Eindrücke, Probleme & Tendenzen" anschließend Austauschrunde
- 14:50-16:10 Gedenkstätte „Roter Ochse“: Die Strafanstalt in NS-Zeit und DDR - Kurzvortrag und Rundgang
- 16:10-16:30 Abschlussrunde moderiert durch Mitarbeitende der Stiftung Forum Recht
