Installation "Fortuna. Futura. Libertas." as part of the Leipzig Light Festival

"What do you think your future will look like in 35 years?"

Every year on October 9, Leipzig shines in candlelight to commemorate the Peaceful Revolution of 1989. Where thousands demonstrated loudly but non-violently for their freedom back then, citizens will once again carry thousands of candles through the city center this year. In addition, 21 light installations and artistic interventions can be experienced around Leipzig's inner city ring road, giving remembrance a face and artistically reflecting the events from today's perspective. The year 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution. For the first time, we are supporting an artistic contribution by the Leipzig Light Festival and are the venue on October 09!

The artists Liudmila Siewerski, Katia Sophia Ditzler, Charlotte Bach and Marisol Jiménez interviewed people in Leipzig about their dreams and ideas of democracy, justice and freedom. The result is the installation "Fortuna. Futura. Libertas.", which will be shown for the first time at the Leipzig 2024 Light Festival on the façade of the G2 Kunsthalle at Innenstadtring/Dittrichring 13.

"Fortuna. Futura. Libertas." is one of a total of 21 projects at the Leipzig Light Festival. The installation was created in cooperation with the Stiftung Forum Recht and was supervised by Sabine Faller (Head of Virtual Location).

Sneak preview and artist talk

Before the authentic demonstration route lights up Leipzig's inner city ring road from 19:00, we invite you to an exclusive meeting with the international artists' collective at the Stiftung Forum Recht on October 9 at 17:00. The four young women provide insights into the work and the creative process.

Lawyer Sabine Fuhrmann, President of the Saxony Bar Association and Vice President of the German Federal Bar Association, will also give a keynote speech.
