At the 2024 Bavarian Children’s & Youth Film Festival, teenagers and young adults made short films to mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law

These are some of the settings that young filmmakers for her screenplays for the 75. Anniversary of the Basic Law selected.
As part of the Bavarian Children's & Youth Film Festival (BKJFF) took place in Passau, Lower Bavaria, from July 18 to 21, 2024, organized by the Forum Recht Foundation Workshop took place, which was almost 80 teenagers and young adults invited them to creatively adapt articles of the Basic Law into short films. All of the young people already had experience in film production. However, the short timeframe of just five hours to complete the assignment—from concept and filming to the final edit—was particularly challenging!
Each of the ten teams received Purses featuring a mini version of the Constitution as well as explanations of a selected article. The topics were assigned to the groups by lottery and were a surprise to everyone. The bags also contained surprise props—butterfly wings for the right to free development of personality, for example, or space-age glasses and pink hats for the right to freedom of assembly.
The selection of the films to be adapted Legal Texts The educational team, along with a research associate and a lawyer from the Forum Recht Foundation, provided the content briefing and explanations regarding the articles’ content. And since the film festival’s theme this time was „Heroes“ ...the working groups created imaginative heroic characters in their Screenplays and had them engage in discussions that were sometimes absurd, sometimes thought-provoking, or metaphorical about the Articles of the Basic Law experience.

Since 1989, the BKJFF has provided a platform for young filmmakers up to age 26. The Bavarian Children’s & Youth Film Festival is organized by the JFF - Institute for Media Education and the Bavarian Youth Association and other partners every two years at different locations. The festival serves as a forum for children’s and youth film groups in Bavaria. It showcases the best films by children, teenagers, and young adults from the regional district festivals. The film „Das Grundgesetz“ is a project of the Forum Recht Foundation, the JFF – Institute for Media Education, and the Bavarian Youth Ring. It was produced as part of the festival’s supporting program and was not entered in the competition.
