Idea and Concept for the Federal Forum on Education in Law and the Rule of Law

What It's All About
The Federal Forum on Teaching Law and the Rule of Law is a two-day conference that brings together stakeholders from the judiciary, education, social services, academia, and politics. The focus is on sharing experiences and fostering networking among all those committed to promoting an understanding of the law and the rule of law. Together, we want to discuss how we can convey legal knowledge in a way that is understandable, accessible, and tailored to specific target groups—thereby strengthening awareness of the law and the rule of law among the general public.
Our Goals and Questions
- Identifying Needs: Where do gaps in knowledge, difficulties in understanding, or a lack of access to information about the law and the rule of law exist among the general public? What target groups and tasks for legal education arise from this?
- Services and Gaps: What topics are relevant to people who have had little contact with the law and the rule of law so far—whether because they have questions or reservations about the legal system, face particular barriers to accessing information in their daily lives, or are not yet sufficiently reached by existing services? What resources are already available, and where are suitable formats still lacking?
- Methods and Tools: How can we communicate legal content in a way that resonates with our target audiences? What challenges do we face, and what best-practice examples can inspire us?
- Building a Network: Which institutions and groups of people are active in legal education, and how can we better connect with them? How can we foster productive collaboration between experts in law and education? How can we work together to launch specific projects and create a sustainable network?
Who is participating
The conference is aimed at legal professionals from across the entire judicial system (particularly judges and attorneys), judicial officers, political educators, teachers, and professionals in social work, academia, publishing, journalism, and politics.
Program and Format
You can look forward to keynote presentations, interactive workshops, and lively panel discussions. The results of the conference will be documented and are expected to be published in a conference proceedings volume. It is particularly important to us to incorporate a variety of perspectives.

Participation is open to anyone interested. We particularly welcome applications from the fields of education, law, media, and social services. In collaboration with the Förderverein Forum Recht, a limited number of participation scholarships are available. Law students at the University of Leipzig can participate as part of a key skills seminar.
Call for Contributions: You can submit entries for the program from April 14 through June 28, 2026.
Registration: Registration for free participation will be open starting June 1, 2026.
