Dr. Cord Brügmann takes over the management of the Stiftung Forum Recht from 16 July 2024
After the committees of the Stiftung Forum Recht decided on Dr. Cord Brügmann as the new Director of the Federal Foundation at the end of April, he is now taking up his new post.
Karlsruhe/Leipzig. From July 16, 2024, the Forum Law Foundation will have a new director: the lawyer and historian Dr Cord Brügmann takes over the management of the Forum Recht Foundation. The Board of Trustees of the Forum Recht Foundation, chaired by Bettina LimpergPresident of the Federal Court of Justice, decided on 26 April 2024 to appoint Dr. Brügmann to the position of Director of the Foundation. In doing so, the Board of Trustees had followed the recommendation of the Personnel Committee, which, with the involvement of the Advisory Board, had decided in favor of Dr. Brügmann following an intensive selection process.
Dr. Brügmann is looking forward to his future role with enthusiasm: "It is important right now that we make the law tangible for everyone. As Director of the Forum Law Foundation, I am determined to create inviting places to promote dialog about the law and the rule of law. I am looking forward to the task and to working with a great team and committed stakeholders in Karlsruhe and Leipzig."
Management team complete again
Together with the Deputy Director Dr Stephan N. Barthelmesswho has headed the foundation on an interim basis since September 2023, the foundation's Board of Directors is now complete again. "The entire team is looking forward to working together, to further developing the foundation and to continuing the successful content and programmatic work with Dr. Brügmann," says Dr. Barthelmess.
Dr Cord Brügmann is a legal practitioner who has spent many years working as a lawyer, in management positions and in political consulting. He worked for the German Bar Association (DAV) from 2003 to 2018, initially as Managing Director for Training and Further Education and later as its Chief Executive Officer. In this role, he spent a decade representing the professional association in its dealings with politicians and the public and worked to modernise and professionalise the association’s structures.
Dr Brügmann earned his doctorate at TU Berlin in 2008 with a thesis on the subject of antisemitism and civil law in the Weimar Republic. He was also involved in the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial and developed educational programmes for the site. He has hosted the ‘Rechtsgespräch’ podcast since 2020, which covers innovations in the legal market and access to the law.
Dr. Brügmann will be based at the Foundation's headquarters in Karlsruhe. Nevertheless, he will also be present at the Foundation's Leipzig location from time to time.

Following successful talks, the contract was signed on June 13, 2024.
