Impressions of the Beyond the Museum symposium
The construction plans for Karlsruhe and Leipzig were further advanced with the interdisciplinary construction symposium
On July 13 - 14, 2022 was dedicated to the Symposium "Beyond the Museum. Architecture for a new togetherness" in Leipzig and digital construction of the future.
Against the backdrop of the planned New construction projects in Karlsruhe and Leipzig, the foundation joined more than 50 scientists, architects, cultural practitioners and interested parties in Leipzig and via live stream.
The participants discussed how cultural spaces can not only be planned in a participatory manner, but also how buildings must be designed in order to become modern cultural and discourse venues of the future.
The first event was the Panel discussion "Exhibiting and communicating the immaterial. What does this mean for architecture" with Dr. Dieter Bogner (university lecturer, museum planner and exhibition curator), Prof. Holger Kleine (professor for artistic-conceptual design at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences), Dr. Ulrike Lorenz (president of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar), Prof.'in Dr. Karen van den Berg (professor for art theory & staging practice at the Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen). Katherina Stahlhoven moderated the discussion, which raised a variety of central questions, challenges and potentials of the symposium topic.
The speakers and participants explored these points and additional aspects in Impulse and transfer lectures and Discussions the following day in three panels:
- "Form follows function revisited. Changeable spaces for cultural and political education"
- "Architecture and urbanity. Democratic manifestations in the city of today"
- "Space for participation. Participation and inclusion in construction projects"
From modern library and learning spaces in the Netherlands and Germany, open exhibition complexes in Japan to current research on virtual and digital spaces, the conference offered a wide range of perspectives.
The livestream of the symposium and further information can be found here. The recordings of the individual panels will soon be available on the Youtube channel be available to the foundation.
