Symposium „1949–2024–2049: Remembering the Past, Mastering the Present, Shaping the Future“

Seventy-five years after the Basic Law came into effect, our constitution must prove its worth in a world that is undergoing fundamental change: Digitalization, globalization, climate change, migration, and demographic shifts present the Federal Republic with a wide range of challenges, as does the realignment of security and foreign trade policy—and, not least, the trend toward authoritarianism, which is putting pressure on democracy both nationally and globally. In light of these challenges, the symposium seeks answers to the question of whether and to what extent the Basic Law can or must be further developed so that our constitutional order is equipped to meet the demands of the present and the future.

Kathrin Schön, program curator at the Forum Recht Foundation, will participate in the symposium’s closing panel at 4:30 p.m. and discuss what education on the rule of law looks like in practice.
