Who is legally recognized as a parent determines family structure, responsibilities, and the rights of children. However, current laws governing parentage continue to be based on the traditional two-parent model and therefore do not always do justice to the diversity of today’s families.

The event organized by the Forum Recht Foundation in cooperation with the Magnus Hirschfeld Federal Foundation examines the reform of descent law from a queer and gender equality perspective. Discussions with the experts on the panel Host Saraya Gomis current needs for reform and the question of how to shape family law in a way that is free from discrimination and promotes gender equality. The focus is also on concrete courses of action for policymakers, government agencies, and civil society.
