(Not) a Legal Vacuum: Artificial Organs, AI Diagnoses, and Genetic Code in Search of New Rules

What sounds like science fiction has long been a reality in medicine: organs printed on 3D printers, AI-assisted diagnoses, and health data that provide a detailed picture of our lives. But who decides what happens with these possibilities? Can you bequeath an artificial organ if it’s made from your own cells? Who has access to sensitive data from fitness trackers or food diaries? How do we protect our privacy? And what does it mean when, thanks to genetic analysis, we can predict things we might not even want to know? Medicine is advancing at a breathtaking pace and presenting us with new legal and ethical challenges. What rules do we need to shape the future of medicine responsibly? Who decides on the use of new technologies? And how can the law even keep up with these rapid developments?

The event on October 9 at the Zukunftsmuseum in Nuremberg will explore these and other fascinating questions. Following an interactive tour of the „Body and Mind“ exhibition, which showcases current innovations and possible future scenarios, the Forum Recht Foundation, in collaboration with the Zukunftsmuseum, invites you to a discussion in the engaging “fishbowl” format. Here, all participants can actively join the conversation: Two experts discuss in the center, while the audience sits around them. Anyone who wants to ask a question, share a thought, or join the discussion can take a seat in the inner circle at any time and become part of the conversation.
