„Invisible Hand“ – „Law and Justice“ Film and Discussion Series“

In cooperation with the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, we’re embarking on a cinematic exploration of the topic „LAW AND JUSTICE: BETWEEN UTOPIA AND REALITY“.

Join us and a select group of experts in a discussion on climate, punishment, sports, and justice, and discover the highlights of international film culture with us.

Our next movie and discussion night: „Invisible Hand“ by Joshua B. Pribanic and Melissa A. Troutman (USA 2020, original version with subtitles)

David versus Goliath. In the fall of 2014, the small town of Grant Township in Pennsylvania took its case to the U.S. Supreme Court to defend the rights of its ecosystem. Its goal: to defend the rights of nature against the economic interests of an energy company.

Countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, and Uganda—as well as Spain—have already granted nature its own rights in their constitutions. But environmentalists around the world are also advocating for a reform of the legal system and enforceable rights for nature.

The internationally acclaimed Documentation describes the U.S. debate on the legal status of nature and provides food for thought for the discussion in Germany.

After the film, we’ll talk with lawyer and journalist Dr. Wolfgang Janisch about the film and ask him how Equitable Environmental Protection what it might look like and what role the rule of law plays in this context.
