Love, hate or the pursuit of justice are at the beginning of every exciting film story from Pasolini to Tarantino. Yet the idea of justice in everyday life is as personal and different as the standard for injustice.

But what do we actually mean by justice in everyday life?
Who determines what is right and just?
And what does that have to do with the rule of law?

The Forum Recht Foundation, in cooperation with the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, is exploring these and other questions in a multi-part, interdisciplinary series of films and discussions.

On November 23, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. The movie continues ‚Toubab‘ (Germany 2021) on the topic of „Borders and Justice.“.

After his release from prison, Babtou is incredibly excited about a fresh start: enjoying his freedom with his buddy Dennis, embracing the world—and having nothing more to do with the authorities. But of all things, his impromptu welcome party goes so terribly wrong that Babtou finds himself back in handcuffs that very same evening. The consequences are dramatic: due to repeated criminal offenses, he is to be deported to his »home country,« Senegal. But Babtou knows Senegal only from his father’s stories. He was born in Germany; his home is Frankfurt. To prevent the impending deportation at the last second, Babtou and Dennis are willing to do anything…

Following the film screening, we'll speak with the expert Maren Schulz. She is a project coordinator at the Refugee Council of Baden-Württemberg e.V.
