„Leipzig Reads“ Book Festival: Ronen Steinke & Matthias Quent

From March 19 to 22, 2026, the major event will take place concurrently with the Leipzig Book Fair „Leipzig Reads“ Book Festival“ takes place. With more than 2,000 events, visitors can experience literature and writers firsthand through readings, panel discussions, and hands-on activities. The Forum Recht Foundation will also serve as a venue for the reading festival on Thursday, March 19: Sociology professor Matthias Quent and the lawyer and author Ronen Steinke They begin discussing crisis management and the defense of fundamental rights.

Ronen Steinke – Freedom of Expression (Berlin Verlag, 2026)
Never before in the Federal Republic of Germany have there been so many and such strict laws regulating and restricting freedom of speech as there are today. Over the past ten years, a large number of new provisions have been added to prohibit certain statements. The state now defines numerous statements as criminal offenses that, just ten years ago, clearly fell under the umbrella of freedom of speech. Ronen Steinke highlights where the boundaries of freedom of speech now lie, including in the digital realm. Especially in the current volatile situation, argues the lawyer with a doctorate in law, the country should dare to allow more freedom of speech instead of believing that people can be persuaded by silencing them.
