Save the Date: Europaplatz / The Rule of Law (in collaboration with CCFA for European Week in Karlsruhe)
ART INSTALLATION IN A PUBLIC SPACE WITH AN ACCOMPANYING PROGRAM
What does Europe mean? This question lies at the heart of Yves Mettler’s artistic work. Together with French EU lawyer Antoine Bailleux, his new work for Europe Day 2023 in Karlsruhe explores ideas and conceptions of Europe through specific court rulings. In their research, the two proceed from the assumption that every ruling by the European Court of Justice also conveys a specific idea of Europe or, conversely, gives rise to new ideas for Europe—from the Europe of borders to the Europe of markets to the Europe of values. These diverse narratives complement and contradict one another, making it clear that Europe is not a fixed framework but a living construct.
