Our next movie and discussion night: „The Other Places“ by Marco Kugel and Simon Quack (Germany, 2017)
With the World Cup just around the corner, they’re back in the spotlight: the pros and the astronomical sums they earn. This film takes a look at those who are also professional soccer players but don’t belong to a club—and therefore have no income. Every summer, the players’ union VDV organizes a camp for them in Duisburg. The film follows them during training, in exhibition matches, and during personal coaching sessions. We learn about their existential fears, their dreams, their wishes, and their hope that a scout will finally take an interest and offer them a contract.
The film offers a glimpse into the reality of the soccer world from an unusual perspective—one that shows like „Sportschau“ and „aktuelles Sportstudio“ rarely provide.
After that, we'll discuss it with you and the Director Simon Quack On Sports and Justice.
