Join us for a discussion as part of the series „Court Cases—A Series of Conversations on the Impact of Historically Significant Trials“ with selected experts on the topic „Public Viewing – When a Verdict Is Handed Down in the Name of the People.“.

The public is part of every court proceeding. A verdict is handed down in its name at the end of every trial. It can be taken into account and consciously addressed by the parties to the proceeding

or be largely obscured. How the public can follow a criminal trial varies considerably from country to country. Via video? Via livestream? Via sketches? Via audio recordings? Or even in person? What happens when a trial is streamed online worldwide? What visual representations (digital and analog) are generated by such a trial? And can the public truly assess the course and significance of a trial based on these? And who, exactly, is “the public”? How much public scrutiny does a criminal trial need?
