Panel Discussion: „May 8, 1945 – Liberation from Injustice?“

Foundation Director Dr. Cord Brügmann will participate in the panel discussion „Nazi Special Courts: The Judiciary as Part of the Apparatus of Power and the Aftermath after 1945“ on May 5“ with Dr. Peter Frank and Prof. Dr. Michael Kißener at the General State Archives in Karlsruhe.

Eighty years ago, World War II came to an end in Europe. To mark this occasion, the General State Archives in Karlsruhe is hosting an evening of dramatic readings and a panel discussion on May 5, 2025: The event will focus on the Nazi regime’s unjust state and the Nazi special courts. As part of a seminar course, high school students in Karlsruhe have been studying the files of the Mannheim Nazi Special Court. On May 5, they will present selected aspects of their work through dramatic readings from the court records. In doing so, they will set the stage for the subsequent panel discussion titled „Nazi Special Courts: The Judiciary as Part of the Apparatus of Power and the Aftermath After 1945.“ The panel will feature Dr. Peter Frank, judge at the Federal Constitutional Court; Prof. Dr. Michael Kißener, professor of contemporary history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz; and Dr. Cord Brügmann, director of the Forum Recht Foundation. Journalist Mirko Drotschmann (MrWissen2go/Terra X) will moderate the discussion.
