Love, hate or the pursuit of justice are at the beginning of every exciting film story from Pasolini to Tarantino. Yet the idea of justice in everyday life is as personal and different as the standard for injustice.

But what do we actually mean by justice in everyday life?
Who determines what is right and just?
And what does that have to do with the rule of law?

The Forum Recht Foundation, in cooperation with the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, is exploring these and other questions in a multi-part, interdisciplinary series of films and discussions.

The Kickoff takes place on 19.10.2022 the theme of „Revenge and Justice“ in the film „“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" (USA, 2017). In Martin McDonagh's feature film, the mother of a young woman who was murdered in a small U.S. town tests the limits of vigilante justice and makes her voice—and her desire for answers—heard.

Following the film screening, we will speak with the justice expert Prof. Dr. Manfred Schmitt on how psychology views the desire for justice. Why do some people decide to seek revenge while others do not? And what role does the justice system play in the emergence and prevention of the desire for revenge?

Tickets and more information are available at the Website of the Kinemathek Karlsruhe.
