Event Recommendation: GlobeBook „Climate Change & Demographic Change as Opportunities“ (Book Discussion)
Book Discussion: A City Without Growth? GlobeForum „Climate Change & Demographic Change as Opportunities“ as part of the „GlobeFestival“
What does it mean to have a world full of shrinking cities? Are they doomed to decline, or can we separate population decline from economic decline, abandoned buildings, and impoverishment?
The book *Smaller Cities in a Shrinking World*, published in June 2023 by Alan Mallach, the urban policy expert seeks to understand how population decline and economic growth—in conjunction with other factors, particularly climate change—will affect cities around the world in the coming decades. At the event at the Stiftung Forum Recht on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., Mallach—who serves as a senior fellow at the Center for Community Progress in Washington, D.C., USA—will personally present his work. The topics and theses will be discussed together with Prof. Dr. Thilo Lang (Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography, Leipzig, Head of the Department of Regional Geography of Europe) and Dr. Annegret Haase (Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research UFZ, Leipzig, Research Associate) discussed.
This event is part of the GlobeFestival and is organized in collaboration with the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ). The GlobeFestival is a science festival in Leipzig that, from October 24 to 27, 2023, creates creative spaces where research, art, civil society, and politics come together. The GlobeFestival is organized by ReCentGlobe, the Research Center for Global Dynamics at the University of Leipzig.
Language: The event will be held in English.
Participation: Admission is free; registration is not required.
