Event Announcement: 200th Anniversary Celebration of the Baden Ständehaus

The Ständehaus in Karlsruhe is celebrating its 200th anniversary! And we'll be there. We're looking forward to this exciting evening on State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg and the City of Karlsruhe to be able to participate. What can we learn about our democracy and how to defend it? That’s what we want to discuss. On November 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the Ständehaus Memorial.

Following opening remarks by Dr. Katrin Dort (City Archives and Historical Museums of Karlsruhe) and Dr. Frank Mentrup (Mayor of Karlsruhe), a keynote address by State Parliament President Muhterem Aras will set the stage for the ensuing debate. Participants in the „Junges Forum Recht” youth project, organized by the Forum Recht Foundation, will ask Muhterem Aras and Dr. Frank Mentrup questions and discuss current issues in democracy and politics with them.  

Please register by October 27, 2022, at veranstaltungen@landtag-bw.de is requested. The event will also be streamed live on the Youtube channel delegated by the state legislature. 

The event will feature artistic performances by the BuschKollegium woodwind trio and slam poet Nektarios Vlachopoulos. 

The Ständehaus is a central symbol of democracy—not only for Karlsruhe, but for all of Baden-Württemberg. The Ständehaus was the first new parliamentary building constructed on German soil. Its completion 200 years ago marks a historic milestone.
