Workshop „Shared Power in Lützerath”: “How the Judiciary, Politics, and Civil Society Shape Protests"

In cooperation with the CTW University Initiative at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.

From Lützerath to the Hambach Forest: Political protests raise questions about activism, the law, and the importance of nature conservation. Who has what authority to act? Where are the boundaries of political protest, and what role does the judiciary play in this context? These questions are the focus of a workshop offered by the Forum Recht Foundation and the student initiative „Community Toolkit Workshop“ at the State University of Art and Design (HfG).

He explores the separation of powers in practice using the example of the eviction of Lützerath. The workshop, part of the „Ants in an Open Field“ series, focuses on five groups of people from politics, the judiciary, and civil society who each shaped the decision-making process surrounding the eviction in very different ways. What interests were pitted against one another in Lützerath? What were the legal challenges? What was the final, legally binding ruling? What information was disseminated by the media? And what scope for action—and what limits—do demonstrators, the police, and the courts have during a public protest?
