As debates on social media intensify and extreme positions gain traction, journalists, activists, and even private citizens are increasingly confronted with cease-and-desist orders or accusations of hate speech. How much freedom of expression is allowed? Where does freedom of the press end? And who sets the limits?<\/p>\n

The guest on this episode of the interactive discussion series \u201eLet\u2019s Talk About Law\u201c is Thorsten Feldmann<\/b>. The attorney specializing in copyright and media law is a partner at JBB Rechtsanw\u00e4lt:innen, one of the leading law firms in the field of media and freedom of expression law, and represented, among others, the investigative journalism platform Correctiv in 2024. Together with Marie-Elisabeth Miersch, a research associate at the foundation, Feldmann will discuss the challenges and pitfalls of public communication.<\/p>\n

The event examines current issues: What are the legal limits on the expression of opinions in public\u2014including online? How does the law protect against misinformation and defamatory criticism\u2014and where are there threats to press freedom? When does investigative journalism cross the line into defamation? And which new developments in media law are particularly contentious right now? Whether it\u2019s injunctive relief lawsuits against investigative reporting, celebrities fighting back against unflattering coverage, or the role of platforms like X and TikTok in dealing with problematic content\u2014press and free speech laws are at the center of social debates.
