Since June, the City of Karlsruhe\u2019s Science Office has been hosting the monthly EFFEKTE science series. Representatives from Karlsruhe\u2019s universities and research institutions provide up-to-date insights into their work through a mix of keynote presentations and interactive formats. The title of this year\u2019s science series is \u201eFreedom in Transition\u2014Opportunities and Limits of Science and Society.\u201c.<\/p>\n
On September 17, the Forum Recht Foundation will serve as a partner for the series. Three keynote presentations will explore the topic \u201eFalse and Manipulated\u2014Why We Fall for Fakes So Easily.\u201c.
\nDigitalization has fundamentally changed the way we access and disseminate information. Never before has access to knowledge been as easy and convenient as it is today; never before has the danger of misinformation and manipulation been as great as it is now.<\/p>\n
Under the moderation of\u00a0Uwe Gradwohl<\/b>, Editor-in-Chief of SWR Wissen Aktuell; in short presentations, the guests will share their knowledge and experiences from research and practice:<\/p>\n
Jan Michael Rasimus<\/b>, head of the Eye Tracking Lab at DHBW Karlsruhe, uses the \u201eNutella effect\u201c to explain why even obvious fake news spreads so quickly online. In addition, the director of the Forum Recht Foundation,\u00a0Dr Cord Br\u00fcgmann<\/b>, highlight where fake news creates barriers to access to justice and explain that, in a state governed by the rule of law, access to justice begins long before one steps through the courtroom door. In the third keynote address, Mirka Tiede, <\/b>A journalist at SWR Aktuell, discussing the challenges posed by fake news and AI in the day-to-day work of journalists, especially on social media.<\/p>\n
The evening will conclude with a panel discussion that will open up the topic for discussion with the audience.<\/p>\n
