In cooperation with the Kinemathek Karlsruhe, we\u2019re embarking on a cinematic exploration of the topic Law and Justice: Between Utopia and Reality<\/strong>. Join us and a select group of experts for discussions on climate, punishment, sports, and justice, and discover the highlights of international film culture with us.<\/p>\n

Our next movie and discussion night: \u201eRashomon\u201c by Akira Kurosawa (Japan, 1951)
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

A manslaughter case and the ensuing trial are at the heart of this classic film. It presents four versions of the same story:
\nAn ambush carried out by a bandit against a traveling samurai and his wife. In court, there are four testimonies that differ from one another\u2014and even contradict each other\u2014on very significant points. So where does the truth lie, given that all versions are internally consistent and credible? Is there even such a thing as an \u201eobjective\u201c perception of events that everyone can share, or do we all experience an event in whatever way best suits us under the circumstances at hand?<\/p>\n
