\u201eAll state power emanates from the people.\u201c (Basic Law) But what should one do when a democracy like the Weimar Republic transforms itself into a fascist dictatorship through democratic means? What should one do if, as part of a student movement like that of \u201968, I have the feeling and the fear that this process could repeat itself? What should one do if a state like the German Democratic Republic violates its own constitution? Since its founding, the Federal Constitutional Court has overseen compliance with and enforcement of fundamental rights.<\/p>\n

But what can I, as a citizen, do today if I feel that the rule of law is not upholding its own laws? How can I tell when this assessment is accurate and when it isn\u2019t? And if it is true, what democratic means do I have at my disposal? What can I do to combat this sense of powerlessness?<\/p>\n
