On Thursday, June 5, 2025, the Forum Recht Foundation is hosting a theme day focusing on the German correctional system. In addition to a tour of the Halle an der Saale correctional facility, the program includes a visit to the \u201eRoter Ochse\u201c memorial. <\/strong><\/p>

Leipzig.<\/strong> What does it mean to be incarcerated in Germany? The next episode will explore this question Theme Day <\/strong>the Forum Recht am Foundation Thursday, June 5, 2025.<\/strong> This free training program is designed for professionals interested in the fields of education, social work, and media, and provides an introduction to the Halle (Saale) Correctional Facility <\/strong>as well as to the \u201eRoter Ochse\u201c Memorial\u201c<\/strong>.<\/p>

Topic: Prison system in Germany<\/strong><\/p>

There are regular discussions in the media and in political circles about how offenders should be treated\u2014yet most people lack an understanding of what incarceration in Germany entails and what daily life is like in German prisons. Public discourse often focuses on \u201elocking people up,\u201c while the issues of reintegration and the purpose of punishment take a back seat.<\/p>

On-Site Insights: Theme Day in Halle (Saale)<\/strong><\/p>

To give participants insight into the correctional system, the Forum Recht Foundation is hosting a professional development day at the Halle (Saale) Correctional Facility. The day\u2019s program includes a Guided tour of the correctional facility<\/strong> as well as a Lecture by Dr. Lorenz Bode<\/strong>, a prosecutor from Magdeburg and author of the book *Internet Access for Prisoners: Between Rehabilitation and Security*. In addition, the participants will visit the facility located right next to the prison \u201eRed Ox\u201c Memorial.<\/strong> There, they broaden the perspective from today\u2019s correctional system to the institution\u2019s troubled past in Halle. During the Nazi era, it served as a protective custody camp and execution site, and during the GDR era, it was used by the Ministry for State Security, among other things, as a pretrial detention center.<\/p>

Theme Days as One-Day Training Sessions<\/strong><\/p>

The Theme Days are designed as one-day, free continuing education events organized by the Forum Recht Foundation. By offering insights into both practice and academia, they provide a more nuanced picture of the responsibilities, challenges, and issues facing institutions under the rule of law. Previous Themed Days have taken participants to locations including the correctional facilities in D\u00fcsseldorf and Bruchsal, as well as the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.<\/p>

The training is free of charge. The number of participants is Limited to 23 people<\/strong>. Registration for the theme day is through Tuesday, May 20, 2025<\/strong> possible.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t
