The digital international symposium 3.0 of the Stiftung Forum Recht is dedicated to the mediation of law and the rule of law. We ask about the potentials and challenges of the points of contact between the rule of law and democracy, human rights and historical narratives of injustice.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

How can the rule of law be communicated? How do you issue (human) rights? What role does the rule of law play in political education?
The symposium will explore these and other questions in three thematic blocks. Multi-perspective short impulses and selected international mediation and exhibition projects will be presented and discussed with the aim of accompanying the Stiftung Forum Recht on its way to sharpening its profile.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Prof. Dr. Andreas Wirsching, born in 1959, is Director of the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin and holds the Chair of Modern History at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He studied history and Protestant theology, obtained his doctorate at the University of Erlangen in 1988 and habilitated in modern and contemporary history at the University of Regensburg in 1995. From 1996 to 1998, he taught as Professor of Modern and Contemporary History of Western Europe at the University of T\u00fcbingen. From 1998 to 2011, he held the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Augsburg. He is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His main areas of research are: Comparative German and French history in the 20th century, the history of the Weimar Republic, communism, fascism and National Socialism 1918 - 1945, German and European history since the 1970s and the history and theory of modernity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Professor Zumbansen studied law and philosophy in Frankfurt, Paris (Nanterre) and Harvard. After his second state examination and his habilitation in civil and corporate law, legal theory and philosophy as well as comparative law, he accepted a research professorship in Toronto. In 2014, he was appointed Professor of Transnational Law and Founding Director of the Transnational Law Institute at the Dickson Poon School of Law at King's College London. Since January 2021, he has held the new Professorship of Business Law at McGill University, Faculty of Law, in Montreal, Canada. Visiting professorships in Yale, Melbourne, Bremen, Rome, Lucerne, St Gallen, Bilbao, Dublin, Bilbao and Sao Paulo, among others. Zumbansen is the author and editor of numerous books on private and commercial law, legal theory and transnational law. Most recently, he edited \"The Many Lives of Transnational Law: Critical Engagements with Jessup's Bold Proposal\" (Cambridge 2020) and the \"Oxford Handbook of Transnational Law\" (Oxford 2021). Nora Sternfeld is an art educator and curator. She is a professor of art education at the HFBK Hamburg. From 2018 to 2020 she was documenta Professor at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. From 2012 to 2018 she was Professor of Curating and Mediating Art at Aalto University in Helsinki. In addition, she is co-director of the \/ecm - Master's program for exhibition theory and practice at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, in the core team of schnittpunkt. ausstellungstheorie & praxis, co-founder and partner of trafo.K, office for education, art and critical knowledge production (Vienna) and since 2011 part of freethought, platform for research, education and production (London). In this context, she was also one of the artistic directors of the Bergen Assembly 2016 and has been a BAK Fellow, basis voor actuele kunst (Utrecht) since 2020. Angelika Nu\u00dfberger has been a professor at the University of Cologne since 2002, holding the Chair of Constitutional Law, International Law and Comparative Law and Director of the Institute for Eastern European Law and Comparative Law. She is currently establishing an academy for European human rights protection at the university. She is also a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, an international judge at the Constitutional Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina and an advisor on international law to the German Federal Foreign Office. From 2011 to 2019, she was the judge elected for Germany at the European Court of Human Rights, and from 2017 until the end of her mandate she was its Vice-President. She studied Slavic Studies, Modern German Literature and Romance Studies as well as Law in Munich and W\u00fcrzburg. On October 9, 1989, more than 70,000 people took to the streets of Leipzig to demonstrate against the SED dictatorship. This so-called \"Day of Decision\" marked the end of SED rule and the GDR after 40 years. One month later, the Wall fell and the path to the reunification of the two German states was cleared. This historically significant event was preceded by many small acts of protest. Since the association was founded in 1991, the Archiv B\u00fcrgerbewegung Leipzig e.V. has been collecting the testimonies left behind by the GDR opposition, the citizens' movement and the initiatives and parties that emerged in 1989\/90 in order to secure them, preserve them permanently, make them accessible and make them available to the public.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Achim Beier studied history as well as communication and media studies at the University of Leipzig from 1992 to 1999. Since 2006, he has worked on projects at the Archiv B\u00fcrgerbewegung Leipzig e.V. He has designed traveling and open-air exhibitions as well as internet presentations. One of his main focuses is on the East Central European influences on the peaceful revolution in the GDR. He also organizes the STOLPERSTEINE memorial project for the victims of National Socialist tyranny in Leipzig.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Nazi Documentation Center is a central place of learning and remembrance that commemorates the crimes of the Nazi dictatorship and deals with its causes, manifestations and consequences up to the present day. A permanent exhibition documents the history of National Socialism in Munich, the city's special role in the dictatorship's system of terror and the difficulties of dealing with this past since 1945. Mirjam Zadoff is Director of the Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism. She previously held the Alvin H. Rosenfeld Chair of Jewish Studies and was Professor of History at Indiana University in Bloomington. Emilia Potenza is Curator of Exhibitions and Education at the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg. She is passionate about history, education and art and the interdisciplinary potential of these topics. Together with her colleagues, she has created various approaches to the history of South Africa for a broad spectrum of visitors and provided impetus for critical debate.<\/p>

Her professional career is characterized by her commitment to the fight against racism and discrimination through education. As a student and later as a teacher, she was actively involved in the resistance against apartheid in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly through the establishment of South Africa's first non-racist teachers' organization. The \"Die Verfassungssch\u00fcler\" project brings democracy to life, inspires young people for participation and democracy and accompanies them on their way to becoming involved in society. In workshops, excursions and encounters, they learn about democracy, their rights and their own role in it and are encouraged to actively stand up for their interests. They are individually accompanied and supported by so-called democracy scouts in schools and youth facilities. Democracy scouts receive valuable knowledge in the field of democracy education through further training formats in the project and can put this knowledge into practice.

Magdalena Strauch completed a voluntary social year in India after graduating from high school. She then studied theology in Bonn, Jerusalem and Frankfurt. From 2014 to 2016, she was a Teach First Fellow at a primary and district school in Hamburg, where she worked with young people in an international preparatory class in areas such as democracy education. Jill Savitt, the President and CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, is a human rights lawyer with expertise in genocide and atrocity prevention. The Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos is a place of ethical reflection on the violations of life and dignity committed by the Chilean state between September 11, 1973 and March 10, 1990.<\/p>

Ray\u00e9n Guti\u00e9rrez Cort\u00e9s is a museologist and holds a Master's degree in Museum Studies from University College London (London, 2014) and a Bachelor's degree in History (Santiago, 2008). In the last 10 years she has dedicated her research and work to the processes of memory culture in Latin America with a special focus on the role of museums in shaping collective memory. Since 2010, she has been working at the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Chile as International Relations Officer, coordinating transnational cooperation projects with museums and cultural institutions that support memory initiatives worldwide.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
